vista and office 2007

I install office 2007 on Vista home basic and when reciving an email with an attachmant..I
can't open the atta. by dubble clicking on it.
I have to save it first and then open it (doc,jpg,pdf etc..).
why can't I open it directly from the email???

What happens if you double click on a .doc file in Windows Explorer ?
And what mail client are you using ?

In windows explorer the doc, jpg, and pdf files will open no problems.
I am using outlook in office 2007.

Thanks for the extra information.
Sometimes this can be fixed by re-setting the default file associations in Vista
AFTER the Office installation: Control Panel . . . Default Programs . . . Associate
a file type or protocol . . . and set the file associations you need. I've read that
if the right associations are already set, you need to set them to something else
(eg notepad, whatever) and back again.
It seems this is a common problem with Office 2007 installations :-(
