If your your data is backed up so you won't lose everything when you reformat it would be best to reformat everything and lay XP down nice and clean. I use 98 for games and *nix for everything else, Always its good whenever possible to start fresh you wont have to worry about compatability or conflicts. If you cant backup your data then you could try a straight upgrade from me to xp although something always doesnt match up right especially if your converting fat32 to NTFS, Depending on your hardware. I would recommend a total reformat and clean install of XP.
