computer does not shutdown on its own when xp was installed

My computer on shutdown always completely shutdown. When I upgraded to xp, it now says your computer is safe to shutdown and I have to hold the reboot button until the screen goes off. What can I do to make it work like it always did? Thank you-KMo9063338@aol.com
