XP Hard-Soft-Ware Incompatibility

After installing XP I have found my Adaptec Easy CD Creator - 4, McAfee Utilities-3,
Pacific Digital 2x2x6 CDRW, and Visioneer 6100 USB scanner all useless.
The CDRW will read a disk, but will not write to a CDR using the XP drivers. Device
manager tells me this drive is working properly.
I have contacted most of these manufacturers and either have been ignored, been told
that I have to purchase totally new software (no updates to XP on older software)
or in the case of Visioneer, that they don't plan to support the scanner for XP.
I don't know who to be the angriest with. Microsoft for setting up this mess, or
the hardware and software vendors who only seem to be seeking to make a killing selling
new software and hardware.
Now that I have XP on my system, I like it a lot and would like to keep it. However,
does anyone know if you can take it back for a full refund?
Or any other solutions?
