I've not had any problems whatsoever with XP. I repartitioned and formatted my disk first though, and made a clean installation. Perhaps the upgrade option introduces problems...Anyway, you can still shut your computer down by holding down the power button for about 4-5 seconds. Most modern computers work that way for forced shutdowns. I'm not sure why.
