Generally upgrading is never a good idea because of glitches (like yours). Your best bet may be to back up your personal data, format your C:, and do a fresh install of XP instead of an upgrade. Alternately you could try replacing explorer.exe : http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q129/6/05.asp?FR=1&PA=1&SD=Whistler
