Just finished installing XP pro over 98 and all went well except the network connection using Linksys 4 port router that had been fine with 98. To get the system to see the router I first had to install Client for MS Networks ... Only TCP was installed with the system. Then I still couldn't connect to the router so I set a fixed IP address ... I used 192.168.1.4 because I have three other systems connected and their IP addresses are from 1 to 3. Then rebooted machine and was able to connect to the router through the browser. Then went to the DHCP tab and disabled and then enabled the DHCP. Then removed the permanent IP address from the XP computer and rebooted and Voila! I was connected. Some of these steps may be redundant but that it what got me connected. Good luck.
