first never upgrade without backing up data you need
uninstall all your external peripherals from the tower
you may have to remove sound card and modem from inside, then retry canceling setup.there
are many ways if this doesnt allow you to return to prior os to get there.based upon
the fact you didnt back up your important files or remove peripherals or check for
compatibility of hardware.probable you didnt uninstall
antivirus or older adaptec rewriter software or have partition magic . you can edit
the boot.ini to give you option to return to prior os,or do parallel install to recover
data as last resort, then format drive and install xp or 98.
