FWIW, I wasted over 40 hours dealing with the same circumstances, i.e., my home DSL
Linksys Router LAN was made up of 6 WIN98SE PCs and running just fine. Then, smart
me installs XP on the PCs!! The result was an absolutly dead LAN. No IP would respond
to ipconfig nor ping nor anything else.
Everything was taken apart and put together several times and just nothing. Really
nothing. Then, following an attempted troubling shooting of one PC-LAN-DSL, I forgot
to move the ROuter X (crossover) switch back to straight through when hooking the
entire network back together. Guess what, the LAN now operates normal!!!
I am only reporting my experience. I can not technically explain why this happend
on my LAN but it did and it is now operating with the ROuter switch set on X. Any
comments?
