Disk Integrity Check at startup

For some reason, Windows XP is checking for disk integroty as I boot up regardless of how many times I run the utility. Additionally, when it does this, it stops after a while and does not continue with the boot sequence. How (if I can) can I turn this off so that I may reboot without sitting at the computer to manually override the check?
