I installed Windows XP PRO into a system using a Epox 8KTA3+ motherboard and an Adaptec
2940uw SCSI crad. The CD writer I use is a Yamaha 2100s. When XP first booted after
the install the system stopped responding, I decided to disconnect the CD writer
from the system as my first step to solving the problem. After this procedure was
completed XP was booted and fully operational. I then decided that the internal CD
UDF writing package that comes with XP was the problem. I installed EZCD Creator
5 Platimun with the patch for XP hoping it would solve the problem, but it did not.
Both Direct-CD and the XP's imapi.sys caused the system to hang. The next step was
to install the hard drive with XP installed, the SCSI card and CD writer into an
old ABIT BX6r2 hosting a P2 400 cpu. XP is fully functional in this system and all
the CD writing software works perfectly. I now beleive the Epox mother board or the
Via chipset drivers for it are to blame. I think both Microsoft and Roxio should
come up with the solution to this problem as there will be many people with similar
problems.
