They told you What !? My Pavilion hasn't exactly taken to XP seemlessly, but I have not encountered the problems described in this thread. Instead, I've had to install all sorts of new software to access things like my CD-Writer Plus 8100i which doesn't seem to want to play audio CDs through anything but My DVD software or WMP. The most difficult problem I have so far is getting Norton Antivirus to work. My desktop icon has a big red X through it and LiveUpdate doesn't detect my cable modem although all my other software, ie. Firewall, etc. can. I've contacted my ISP and they confirm my LAN settings are correct. I have a query in to Symantec. It's my last hurdle. I've had to reinstall XP a few times and revert back to prior settings. At one point, I couldn't even get the Help menu open. I converted the system to NTFS since I couldn't get back to Windows 98 anyway. Now it's running much more smoothly.
