what's the deal with the two people slagging this post off for not being relevant?
The end result of the problem was numerous cross-linked files and a corrupt registry.
cross-linked files are due to problems with the partition table, and in that this
is and the registry are on the hard disk, saying that it's a corrupt hard drive doesn't
seem like such a bad description. Maybe the title could have been 'XP with non-compliant
hardware may cause partition table problems or bad writes to the hard drive' but
how pedantic do you have to be?
