Yes, I have had a very similar problem.

Xp worked well for about 2 weeks, then after shutting down normally, i rebooted, 
only to find my 'c:\windows\system32\config\system' files 'missing or corrupted'.

I reinstalled after format and the same happened again.
The 3rd time it happened i lost it and phoned MS. ( excellent service )
They told me that it could be my RAM not writing correctly on shutdown so try new 
ram. Or it could be the Highpoint 370a drivers for the SCSI RAID ARRAY on the mobo.

I have so far had 1 x new mobo, 1 x new HDD, 512 mb new RAM.
In total i have spent a further £300 + on hardware, and  days installing  just to 
get XP running !!

A very expensive messup.

p.s. For all of those intelligent people who responded to this post, calling him 
an 'arse' etc etc.... well done, really helpful and most nice of you. Why didn't 
you just change the title in your only reply to post though ?? that way, when people 
search, they could just search under 'Insulting idiots' or something.
