It *can* occur when a driver makes a request to a higher interrupt than it's allowed. Since you say you lose your cd-rw drive, what software (if any other than what came with XP) are you using to perform burning to it? I know a lot of people are having problems with older versions of Easy CD Creator. Whatever you use, I'd look into this as a possible cause to your problem.
