Go into your Network Conections menu, right click on The connection that is giving the icon (I think you mean your LAN?) go to properties and unchech "show icon in notification area when connected. Another way to hide the icons in the system tray is to right click on your toolbar, go to properties. In there in the first page at the bottom is the option to hide inactive icons. Click customise to hide any that you don't need to see all the time.
