I had this XP-ME problem until I cycled thru the Network Setup Wizard a couple of
times on each machine alternately, A-B and then A-B again. I also changed the name
of the workgroup from one name to another and then back, on both units. Don't use
the default MSHOME name. (I installed NETBEUI and then removed it. You don't need
any protocols except TCP/IP.) Also try Start>Run>"COMMAND" (enter) and then at the
DOS prompt type IPCONFIG to give local stats and then NET VIEW to see if the XP unit
sees the ME, and then PING (name of the ME unit, as seen in net view) to see what
the XP thinks the ME's parameters are. These should get you on the road. --Are you
using a firewall? If so, then turn it off when troubleshooting.
