bells,
it sounds like a problem I've had in upgrading the systems I've used. It sounds
almost like XP is still trying to use your Win98SE drivers for your SB Live. There
are a couple ways of remedying this, but sometimes it can be a real mess and a real
pain.
1. First, go to your Device Manager.
2. Go to Sound, Video, and Game Controllers
3. Find "Creative SB Live (WDM)" If you can't find it, then most likely XP IS using
your 98SE drivers for XP.
4. You can either uninstall the device via software (click the uninstall button),
or you can try to manually force XP to use the new drivers.
5. To manually force the drivers, double click on Creative SB Live.
6. Click on the Driver tab
7. Click Update Driver
8. Click the radio button next to "Install from a list or a specific location (Advanced"
9. Click Next
10. Click the Radio Button next to "Don't Search......."
11. Click Next
12. Look for the Creative SB Live (WDM) (Microsoft) in there that has a little gray
3d box with a green checkmark in it. This is a WHQL certified driver that is XP
Compatible. Select the one by Microsoft, and click Next.
That will force XP to start using that driver, instead of any other driver. Hope
this helps!
