I have the same problem. I access the internet through a proxy and a firewall, and have control over neither of them. At first, I couldn't even access the updates, but I fixed that by ticking "Use HTTP 1.1 with proxy". However the updates don't appear to download properly, and the installation fails. I had no problems with Windows Update over Windows 98. I access the internet via the JANET network, from Durham, UK.
