I have a similar problem, but a bit different. I have new XP machine attaching to
a network of Win98/ME machines. I have a printer hooked up to a Win98 machine.
The XP machine can see the printer, and select it as default, but gives an error
when I try to print. Because the printer on the Win98 machine requires a password,
this doesn't surprise me, but the WinXP machine doesn't give me an opportunity to
type one in. When I remove the password protection from the Win98 machine's printer,
the WinXP machine can print to the printer. From WinXP, I can access shared folders
on Win98 machines, and it prompts me for the password. Is this a bug in XP, or is
there a way to type in the password on the XP machine for a printer (attached to
the 98 machine) in order to access it?
