Hello from Roxio, (italics are my comments)
I have read your e-mail concerning issue's you are experiencing
with Easy CD Creator and Windows XP.
Listed below is a procedure that can be carried out in order to achieve
a clean uninstall of Easy CD Creator, plus the proper way to apply the
necessary patches which will bring Easy CD Creator Platinum compatible
with Windows XP. I tried to remove Adaptec UDF reader, but add/remove programs
failed to do this, giving some hex error. (Apparently, that was not important.)
1.) Remove Easy CD Creator 5.x from within add remove programs, as well
as any other cd recording software including Adaptec if listed. Do not
reboot.
2.) Open windows explorer and follow this path to C:\program files. If
you see an Adaptec folder please delete it. Also delete the Adaptec
shared folder under C:\program files\common files, if there.
3.) Go to the start button, choose run, type regedit, click ok. Once in
regedit, click file in the upper left hand corner and choose export
registry file. Save this file as Roxiobackup on your desktop or anywhere else
you can remember. This is very similar to Norton Utilities version 2001, which allowed
a full backup of the registry. Once you have exported a backup of your registry,
a. Locate and open the folder HKEY_CURRENT_USER
b. Under this key open the SOFTWARE folder then delete Adaptec.
c. Close the SOFTWARE folder.
d. Close HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
e. Locate and open the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
f. Under this key open the SOFTWARE folder then delete Adaptec.
g. Close the SOFTWARE folder
h. Close HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE
i. Exit the Registry editor
4.) Go back to the start button, choose run, type msconfig, click ok.
Click the startup tab, then click the disable all button. Click apply
then ok, and restart your computer.
5.) Once you are back on your desktop, Install Easy CD Creator from the
Roxio install disk, do not reboot.
Error 1311: source file not found I:\Data.cab. Verify that it exists and you have
access. I used explorer to find it, and double clicked to read its contents.
The fix is to copy the entire CD-ROM to D:\xxxxx, then due install fromthere
6.) If you have the ecdc_v502b.exe patch apply it now. If not please
download this patch to your desktop, from the Roxio website, and apply
it, do not reboot. You can find the Roxio download page at the
following link. (This patch adds support for newer cdrw drives)
http://www.roxio.com/en/support/ecdc/ecdcupdates.jhtml
7.) Apply the XP_UP_Platnium.exe patch. Which can also be found on the
Roxio download page. Save this patch to your desktop as well. (This
patch makes Easy CD Creator compatible with XP)
8.) Reboot
Hopefully this will solve your problem, If you have any other question,
please contact us again.
Thank you for contacting Roxio.

9) Run msconfig and enable all startup stuff. Eventually you may want to NOT auto-start
directCD, as it seems to suck some CPU cycles.
10) Reboot
The rest is optional, and not advice from Roxio:
11) Test Easy CD Creator on a CD-RW, then read, then read in normal CD-ROM drive,
then erase
12) Reboot and retest to be sure it all works
13) Also try extending a CD-RW that is formated via direct CD (i.e., photos)
14) Run Norton Win Doctor to fix registry errors, like mising target files, links,
etc.
