Here is your fix folks, for the maddening "Windows XP Search Companion" failure:
First, make sure you have your folder settings set up so that "Hidden files and Folders"
can be seen! Using Windows Explorer, find your way to the following file: C:\Windows\Inf\srchasst.inf
Once you find it, RIGHT CLICK on it. Then, click "Install"
You will now need your Windows XP CDROM. After you have clicked Install, you will
be asked for the the location of several files. Those files are on the WinXP CDROM
in the I386 folder. Allow them to be installed. Your XP Search companion will now
be back in proper working order (untill the next time it gets corrupted, and it will!).
When it does, repeat the above procedure. Enjoy.
