Don't know if this might help but I found out that this is a known problem with XP.
I encountered it on a friends HP Pavilion pc. When I called HP they said that they
would mail me a boot disk to boot from ,and when I got the machine back up, go to
a link that would have a permanent fix to the problem. You can refer to a link that
