Have you tried uninstalling the sound card from the control panel, then shutting
off your computer and moving that card to a different slot on your motherboard?
I've read on the Net, that having the sound card in slot #4 can cause problems on
some machines, no matter what else is or isn't installed with it.
This should get the soundcard onto a different IRQ. I don't recommend putting
it on slot #1 if you have an AGP graphics card. Usually whatever card is in that
slot, ends up sharing the same IRQ as your graphics card. Not a good thing, to have
graphics and sound sharing like that.
You might have to swap other cards around until you get a config. that won't cause
problems. Try to get this working WITHOUT uninstalling the network card, cuz you'll
have to completely reconfigure your network connections and protocols if you do!
If you do try moving the network card, make sure you uninstall "Zone Alarm" *FIRST*!
(if you're using it, that is.. ;P ) You don't want it getting in the way when
you restart your computer. Trust me on this. Erg!
