I've been trying to install a Lexmark X83 printer for ten days. When I get to the
installation instruction to plug in the USB connection and I do, it gives me the
error notice. Also, Have been in contact with Lexmark and Microsoft. Microsoft
had me do some changes, but it didn't fix the problem. Yesterday, they had me to
perform a win XP repair. More or less ended their help. I am still getting the
same 16 Bit Subsystem msg as the others. C:\windows\system32\config.nt. The system
file is not suitable for running MS-DOS or microsoft windows appl. Chose "close
or ignore". When I do that the installation stops. When you say run M:\i386\command.co_c:\windows\system32\command.com.
What does the "M" originate from? My cd-rom drive is "E", would I use "E"? I am
also getting the error notice on my desktop when I turn on the computer. This started
after I did the changes that Microsoft requested.
