IT's crazy, it doesnt seem like there is any fix to this problem. Everyone thinks
its as simple as calling your ISP, People don't understand i tried that, This problem
goes beyond, your ipconfig /release... ipconfig/renew. You cannot put in a static
address entry because that won't work. I called my ISP, they couldnt help me. Even
if you tried to telnet into your router and release it from there it wont work.
Im going a step further and disconnect my router and just try to get online directly
via cable modem via NIC CARD and USB TO CABLE MODEM, it doesnt work. I tried 3 different
nic cards in 3 different PCI slots, and restarted my pc after removal of NICS 3 seperate
times. I tried stopping all services from administrative tools, dhcp service amongst
1 of them reboot and then start the service again, bam! 169.254.x.x again. IT DOES
NOT WORK. I tried reinstalling the drivers for my cable modem after i removed the
device, that doesnt work. I think I pretty much tried everything, for someone with
3 years of experience I feel like im an idiot. I should just copy everything to cd,
but i have 20 gigs worth of stuff to move down, I just cant fix it. Maybe i'll just
make it my game machine used only for video games. but for now FORMAT C:\ /u is
not the answer for me,, yet!!. I've had this problem since 7/02/02 and still no
results. I hope someone can help, Im not looking for smart ass answers, eighter.
I think the next step i will try, is Reinstalling TCP/IP.
