Your problem is not uncommon.
Creative Sound Blaster cards need IRQ 15. there is a problem however in that Windows
XP & XP Professional has HAL (Hard Ware Adaptive Layer) which takes over the BIOS.
HAL then dynamically assigns IRQ's which cannot be changed or redirected with out
a third partys HAL.
The upgraded drivers cannot correct this problem. I have had other problems with
My Audigy Platinum. Creative did not upgrade any thing except some dirvers and the
majority of their software was not upgraded to compatiability with XP.
If your surround card supports Dolby 5.1 surround you might try a DVD setup / diagnostic
/ calabration disk to see if your card actually does decode Dolby.
In my instance I have tried 3 different ones and 3 different DVD software decoders
that are supposed to decode 5.1. They have all failed or the Blaster card has failed.
They tried to tell me to enable EAX so that I could get surround but this is not
correct as EAX does not have any thing to do with Dolby.
In Addition the EAX console pops up in Windows XP Professional and takes over the
screen and there is no minimize or exit buttons. This requires a ctl+alt+del to
shut it down.
If you have any of these and I have over 3 pages of problems that I have reported,
then it's probably just Creative not doing you any favors.
