I had finally figured out how to connect all my computers. To date, I do not know which of the "fixes" did the trick. I took the following steps. First I deleted everything I had done to date. Then I reinstalled NetBeui by copying the files over from the XP disk for the manual installation. Then I redid all of the ip addresses on the XP computer. I then installed TCP/ICP on the windows 98 computer but did NOT assign a static ip address. (Remember all my other computers had a static ip address and TCP/IP installed already including the XP computer. I then rebooted the win 98 computer and logged onto the network using the SAME user name as the XP computer I logged onto. (I doubt you have to do this.) Then I rebooted the XP computer, went to network places and voila.. there was my missing win 98 computer!! To test, I shared the drive on the XP computer and could see files FROM the win 98 computer. And I could see files on the win 98 computer FROM the XP computer. Just out of curiousity, I checked the ip address section on win 98 computer and mystically, there was an ip address in there that I had NOT given it, nor was it one of our static ip addresses. I've come to the conclusion that only Computer Gurus will ever know the why's and whatfores of what happened. But I am happy that it works now. Some very nice people wrote to me privately to help me with the problem and I am very grateful for their help. Thanks to all :) Tenna
