Odd things arise from Windows XP from time to time - especially if your net to the
NT platform. But this evening I was doing some things with a new router, and was
trying to match an open port to a process, and that process was inetinfo.exe. This
process is started with any IIS application or service. So they say. After setting
all IIS services to disabled, this inetinfo.exe process continues to load when the
system is restarted. My problem with this, is that it's sending data of some sort
to sa.windows.com - WHY? Something else thats odd - go to the services manager,
stop all services that start with IIS. Set them to disabled in the properties, and
check your processes - if inetinfo.exe is still running, terminate it. Now go to
\WINNT\system32\inetsrv and delete inetinfo.exe.....wait a few seconds, and it's
back. On reboot it will be loaded regardless of IIS services. Why do they want
a sevice that is useless for non-webserver machines running all the time? I think
it's a form of spyware.. Microsoft's own.. Any ideas?
