problem solved!
I didn't even think to search for other instances other than the documented locations...
grr, all that frustration could have been averted had I just thought to check for
duplicate keys.................
I had one wicked looking key under HKEY_USERS\ with the NoDriveTypeAutoRun option,
(not normally there!) set to b5 hex, ((which disables cdrom))
now I'd like to know what put it there ... lol
