I've just got another pc with windows XP and had the same problem, that ther seemed
to be a bogus password and that xp would not save mine, I have eventually found that
for some reason there is an unknown account on my PC, I deleted this account and
everything seems ok.
I found this account using the following sequence:
Control panel, select System, select advanced tab, select user profiles, select settings.
if there is a spurious account listed, delete, then try and dial up and save your
password
hope this helps.........good luck
