Upgrading to XP Pro is about $180. If you just want a web server for development
use, get Xitami.
It's a free, stand-alone server that's very lightweight -- abt 1 MB -- well documented
and runs right out of the box. I've got it running on my XP Home system now. It's
been running about a week now and I haven't noticed any conflicts or slowdowns while
the server is running in the background.
Here's the URL: http://www.imatix.com/html/xitami/index.htm
If Microsoft continues to offer half-solutions and products that don't get the job
done, people will go elsewhere.
