To Em or anyone that got Win98 to network w/ crossover cable:
Since you have a working networked Win98 PC w/ a crossover cable, might you know
why mine doesn't work?
As MGDodge pointed out, "Windows 98 does not support direct connections of RJ-45
cable between computers." I didn't know this. If it's true, it wasn't stated on
the box of my Belkin crossover cable.
I've tried to get it to work. Both computers have same protocols. Adapters running
OK according to System Properties. The respective computers on their respective
Network Neighborhoods. I've made sure IP address are unique & subnet is same numerous
times.
Strange thing is when both PCs are on and connected, both PCs (Win98 & Win95) detect
a link (Link ON). But when I try pinging each other, the pinging fails. I also
tried "netdiag" (or "net diag", whichever it is) and tried setting up a diagnostic
server on either, then switched, and using NetBeui and IPX but both PCs never detect
the server.
So do you think I missed something or did something wrong or my cable doesn't work?
