Mike,
Did you ever solve this problem?
At least on my machine It is definitely NOT a BIOS issue.
I am having a similar problem and I think that it is related to MS Messenger. I am
not sure that this is what is causing the problem, but I have 5 user accounts on
my system with identical Power Options settings. Three of them have never run Messenger.
When I go into Standby from these three accounts the fans stop. Going into standby
from the other two accounts leaves the fans running. Once you have run Messenger
on a user account I think the fans will no longer turn off when you try to go into
standby while you are logged onto that account or while you are at the logon screen
after logging off from that account. This still happens on these accounts even though
I am now preventing Messenger from running by having renamed the Program Files/Messenger
directory. I am sure that this could be corrected by some clever registry setting,
but I do not know what it is. Does anyone out there know what to change in the registry
to fix this?
