I had the same problem with my P3 1GHz 512MB of RAM. In windows XP it is really simple to fix. First, right click on My Computer and go to Properties. Then go to the Advanced Tab. There Should be a area with the heading performance with a settings button close to it and click it. Uncheck show shadows under start menus and anything else you don't want to have on and click ok. Get back to the desktop and enjoy your new found speed!!!!
