I *think* what may be happening is that Windows is looking for a DHCP server when the connection breaks. I took several steps that some of you recommended: upgraded router firmware (BEFSR41), manually set IP address / subnet mask / DNS address, disabled ICS, and disabled DHCP within the router. Result: connection still breaks, but it is no longer simultaneous on both machines (odd). Is it possible that each machine is still individually looking for a DHCP server? Is there any way to ensure that they are not? How would I do this on XP and ME?
