The above posting may well be right, but another possibility is that some AVIs are
encoded using DivX codec. You'll need to download it (search the web for DivX, it's
a fairly small, free download) then install it. It's fairly common to AVIs to need
this. This should solve the problem of sound and no picture.
As for Format Not Supported, this is often caused on an AVI by the download not completing
in full. Unlike on an MPEG, the index table for an AVI is at the end of the file,
so if you don't complete the download, it can't play any of it. With MPEGs it's at
the beginning, so you can quickly start to preview a file while it's downloading.
The solution is to get a small program (I forget the name, you can get it off Download.com,
search for AVI editing tools or something) which strips the index table from AVIs
and rebuilds it, enabling you to view the clip. It's not 100% perfect, but it usually
works.
