That is unusual, to say the least, and all I can suggest is never connect more than one item to a parallel port at one time. I have tried to use so-called pass-through hardware that claim to chain parallel devices as if they were SCSI devices, but they never worked for me. However, if you mean USB (1.1 or 2.0) or firewire or SCSI, please repost with more info. Those are how modern CD burners connect to a PC, with USB 2.0 probably being the most popular today. (I happen to have firewire and that is equally good as USB 2.0. USB 1.1 is very slow, in comparison. SCSI is great, but such hardware is usually over-priced.) Finally, have you verified that this hardware is XP compatible? Not all harware that worked under 98/ME is supposed to work under XP. Check with Microsoft and/or HP. Good luck.
