Normally, you don't need the config.sys and autoexec.bat - they are sometimes put
in there for older, DOS-based apps (usually put on for some of the "junk" apps that
come with a proprietary (Gateway, Dell, Compaq, etc.) computer. Normally, XP uses
System.ini, Win.ini, Boot.ini to take care of necessities, and will use msdos.sys
to take care of other items. You might consider booting from a floppy and checking
for an autoexec.bat file and if it exists, open it and see if it refers to a config.sys
or other items. If so, try to comment out the lines that seem to call for "helpers".
