I have had problem pinging between my win98 and winxp laptop using a crossover connector.
I finally get everything working by lowerring the transfer speed to 10mbs. In the
automatic mode, the cards would negotiate to 100mbs but I only see it worked once.
I'm using a cheap d-link dfe-530tx card from Fry's on the win98 pc and I begin
to wonder if it is causing the problem.
You can control the card speed via the adapter card's config or property dialog ->
advanced tab -> link speed/duplex mode setting
Also, I set both of my pc on the same workgroup.
win98 pc ip: 192.168.0.1, mask 255.255.255.0 no dns, no wins, no gateway
winxp pc ip: 192.168.0.2, mask 255.255.255.0 no dns, no wins, gateway 192.168.0.1
