Explorer causing 100%/High CPU usage on mpeg files

When I run explorer and have a directory with mpeg files in it, if I select the file
(even right-clicking to rename), all of a sudden my system (P4 2.4ghz) begins to
CRAWL. If I have performance monitor running, in about 3 seconds it will show explorer
using up 100% of the CPU cycles. After about 30 seconds, the system comes back and
everything is fine (if I manage to finish the rename, for instance, the keyboard
is slow to respond, but I can get through it, and after the rename the system will
still be slow for another 20-30 seconds). I've searched here and I'm using DMA (this
is a Raid 0 array). I found a "tweak" on the web about explorer and AVI files slowing
the system down, so I removed the specified registry key, but no change. This is
a fairly "fresh" system, and has been going through lots of XP "updates" and it appears
to have begun after one of these, but unfortunately I cannot be sure. Would really
appreciate any insight, it's driving me nuts.
