I tried the two registry fixes too. The one that Deletes the MayChangeDefaultMenu
key didn't work but the ShellImagePreview deletion did.
However if you found that both didn't work you might like to try this trick. I
don't know how safe it is, or whether it writes billions of things in the registry
but I did find it worked on someone's XP last year. Go to START Run.
Type in
regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll
This is supposed to "disable" the File and Fax viewer.
Because the Windows Image and fax Viewer steals associations from other image viewers
despite your own settings I think this disablement is the best way. Though granted
many people say delete the ShellEx Context Menuhandlers key (not the folder! make
sure you delete the key value in the right hand side box) in the HKCR\SysteFileAssociations\image\ShellEx
path of the registry.
Maybe you've cured this rotten glitch since March but in case not, I hope that was
helpful.
