I have had problems with computer freezes ever since I installed a soundblaster live
card when I built my computer. It usually happens during a 3D game and I wish I
knew why. I have also had repeated problems with the sound becoming "unsynchronized"
from the video while watching or recording a movie. I was convinced that it wasn't
the sound card and have always been lead to believe that it was the video card.
All for nothing. I have gone through Nvidia, Matrox, and now ATI video cards and
Windows ME, 2K pro and now XP pro in the same computer to try to fix the problem.
The new ATI software has a system test that said the audio card frequency was not
within 2% stability and that it would cause problems with playback. I pulled the
audio card and installed the jumper for the motherboard's audio and ALL my problems
went away. After a year and a half of troubleshooting it was the audio card. Through
all of this I have had no help from Creative Labs at all. They seem to think the
problem is elsewhere. I wish someone would come up with a better solution but this
works for me. Sound Blaster cards seem to have a lot of resource and bug issues
that the company won't deal with and they only get worse with XP even with the newest
drivers. R.C.
