I have accidentally installed windows xp side by side with windows 98. How can I
uninstall windows xp?
I was having a problem with my internet explorer. I spoke to microsoft support who
decided that my user.exe file was corrupted and tried to replace it from the files
on my hard drive. This was an old file and caused windows 98 to no longer boot properly.
The computer will only start in command prompt mode. Because I no longer have my
windows 98 disk, The technician told me that installing the full version of windows
xp would fix the problem.
I borrowed a copy to install. I had to install from the prompt mode because the
windows 98 would not load. My hard drive is partitioned and I installed the windows
xp on my D drive. Windows 98 is on my C drive. Instead of updating Windows 98,
it installed a new version on the D drive. Because it was not an update there is
no "uninstall windows xp" option in the control panel.
I'd like to start over again. Can I uninstall windows xp in the command prompt mode?
Can I do this without completely cleaning out the D drive? I have a few other files
on the D drive that I don't want to lose.
Thanks for any thoughts.
