IF I follow your post correctly, you have lost your Win98 CD and borrowed a WinXP 
CD. On that basis;

Buy a new WinXP disk. Do a clean install. Partition  and format both drives and start 
over. Read the instructions and watch what is going on on your screen. If you keep 
trying to "save" things, you will get deeper and deeper in s___, and the chances 
of sucess are between nil and none.
