After having read the replies to Mac and Ckayya's experience, I cannot see anyone who has been able to offer information which has resulted in actually FIXING the ICS XP Gateway <-->98SE Client (when the problem has occurred) other than by setting up the gateway as a proxy server (with undesirable application restrictions eg ICQ on Client) or in Chayya's case using Zone Alarm which seems to have "forced"/unblocked? the internal TCP/IP comms somehow. I have tried unsuccesfully for weeks to get ICS to work on XP Gateway/Server <--> 98SE client. Strange thing is that the client can ping any external site by number or name - so TCP/IP and DNS seem not to be a problem. BUT NO CLIENT APPLICATION WILL ACCESS EXTERNAL INTERNET SITES - Not IE6, not OE6, not Cuteftp, not Nortons Live Update, not ICQ registration, ... nothing. I studied various sites which suggested Registry HOT-KEY corrections, reloading winsocks.dll, wsocks32.dll etc but each of the recitations were unclear whether they were discussing the server or the client or for XP or 98SE. Most imprecise and confusing. So haven't attempted those yet without other user confirmation of success. Anyone? This problem is so frustrating especially for an old programmer like me. How does this rubbish software get onto the market and get taken up by so many? HAS ANYONE SOLVED THIS PROBLEM IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS OR MORE? Joe
