Hello all
I had the problem of opening .exe files in Windows XP sp1 and stumbled upon this
thread which offers the solution by giving advice on how to change the settings in
the registry. Luckily, as I and other people found out, the path to the registry
entry was different on my computer than was shown in the thread. The reason I see
it as lucky is 1. I know nothing about the registry and could've easily got myself
into a real mess and 2. After refusing to mess with the registry anymore, I decided
to look further and see if there were any other solutions. It turns out that all
I had to do was to go to OE-TOOLS-OPTIONS-SECURITY-and then uncheck the box about
opening .exe .vbs files etc. I then restarted outlook and succesfuly opned the
.exe file sent to me by my trusted friend. I hope I've posted this message in time
to save people from causing damage to their computers by going into a part of the
computer that should be left alone for people who, unlike myself, know what they're
doing.
