To follow on from the article on suppressing the thumbnail views in certain folders, 
I've got a trick which seems to have worked for customising the "special" folders 
like My Pictures etc.

Since the folders are locked when designated as special, the trick starts like solution 
3 in the original article:

1) Use TweakUI to change the special folder location to something else; anything.
2) Customise the original special folder to suit your needs.
3) Change back the special folder location to point to the original folder, the one 
that you just customised.

The folder ought now to be locked and uncustomisable, but retaining the settings 
that you chose for it.
