On all windows operating systems as well as linux you cannot necessarily change motherboards
and still use the same OS. In the older versions of windows if you tried this then
you would get a "Windows Protection Error". If you are able to swap motherboards
without a problem then it is sheer luck. There is no surefire way of telling when
you will be able to switch motherboards while using an already install OS. A good
rule of thumb to assure that your OS will still work is if you are installing a motherboard
of the CPU series (ex. MSI Pentium 3 board swapped with MSI Pentium 3 board). When
you start upgrading or switching from company to company you run into problems. You
won't get the "windows protection error" with XP or 2000 but it still won't boot
up into the OS. You need to to a format and fresh install. That's the only way.
