Good day. A few months ago I figured out how to fix the problem... at least with my computer. The camcorder I described was made by Sony. So I went to Sony's website and looked for any info I could find. I found this: http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/dvimag/analog/softupdates/ Notice the first option down says, "The computer restarts or an error appears when connecting a camera in USB mode." Apparently all you need is a driver update to USB 2.0? Hope this helps. Daryl
